Summer draws to an end...

It is that time of year when we start to ready the outside for fall.  It comes earlier in the mountains than down in town.  It has been a fantastic summer of peace and rest at 3 Legged Dog Ranch.  When I started the summer blog we had 7 dogs staying with us.  We are now at four, but some have come and gone so quickly we did not get them posted.

Here is Rosey.  She was running down a country road out in the middle of nowhere!  She is now safe and secure with her fosters in Tri-Cities and will be up for adoption soon.  Here she is looking for a napping place.

While we were dropping off Rosey to find her forever home, we heard about an 11 year old dog that needed a Final Refuge home.  Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue offers older dogs the opportunity to live out their lives in a private home getting all the care and love they need.  We did this last year for Schatzi who is not longer with us.  She was an incredible dog and we loved her.

Schatzi...

So we took Ms. Shadow home with us to stay!  She is a super sweet girl and we are delighted to have her!  She has had a rough week, but her first 11 years she was a well loved and cared for girl.  So we  will continue that tradition for all the time she has left.  Welcome home Shadow!

Just one more thing!  We had a little foster failure.  Her name is Torre and she is the most fabulous girl!  We just adore her and are so lucky to have her.  We are now complete with our family.  I will keep you updated on the adventures here at the ranch.  Our house and hearts are full - for now!

4th of July fun in the Blue Mountains

It was a fun filled 4th of July weekend up at the ranch.  Lots of company.  Lots of dogs.  The puppies are growing and Bear has attached himself to our visiting 10 year old boy.

You can find out more adoption information at www.mikeyschance.com

Bear (the smaller yellow lab) enjoyed a game of catch with Rick and Alex.  He is available for adoption at Mikey's Chance!  The bigger yellow boy is Chauncy (aka KKL/Chance) - adopted from Mikey's Chance two years ago.  He loves life at the ranch.

Let's just say that if the ball was not on target, it  was a free for all:)  Bear directs the pack from a distance.

Bear is a fabulous boy looking for his forever home.  He has some issues, but I have no doubt he will learn the rules of a new family and be a great dog.  He is great with cats, other dogs, kids, adults, and horses.  In fact, he is the only dog that stays out of the corral when asked to "stay."

The puppies of course had to get in on the action!  They don't stay on the sidelines very long.
They were six weeks old on Friday and will be available for adoption through Mikey's Chance in a few weeks.  Sweet dispositions and feisty personalities make for some seriously fun puppies.

They enjoyed playing with Bryce.  Their favorite toy...an empty plastic flower pot.  Low maintenance puppies.

Alex is filling up the pool for some splashing in the afternoon heat.

The boys keeping the pups entertained.

Sitka has a new friend!

The puppies are due to head back to the Tri Cities this week, so keep an eye out for their adoption news.  They will be snatched up quickly.  I am going to miss them:(

Hot in the Mountains

Oh boy, it is a hot one out there even at 3,800 ft.  The puppies are spending their day indoors except for a few potty breaks.

Today they are sacked out on the floor - the carpet is just way too hot.  Here are all three fosters.  Bear is the yellow lab available from Mikey's Chance.  Visit their website www.mikeyschance.com for information on BEAR and to request adoption applications.

Kenai and Sitka are sacked out.  As you can see, they are shepherd mixes and will be fairly good size dogs.  They are fluffy and feisty.  They don't care to be held, so we are working on not wiggling and SCREAMING when we are held.  Today I clipped their nails and had no trouble with either of them.  When I talk to Sitka (pink collar), her little head moves back and forth as if she is listening to every word I say.  So cute.  Kenai is a mellow pup.  He loves to explore.  He is confident and not intimidated by the big dogs.  He is interested in the cat, but respectful.
I was trying to do a size comparison in this one, but she looks bigger than him which is definitely not the case.  He is going to be a big dog.  But he is a sweet, sweet boy.
Stay cool out there....

Summer 2013

We have started summer here at 3 Legged Dog Ranch.  With it comes puppies!  Thank you Mikey's Chance for once again providing some much needed happiness with two adorable shepherd mix puppies.  One girl (Sitka - pink collar) and one boy (Kenai - blue collar).  These two babes are about five weeks old now and still have some time to go before they will be ready for adoption, but they won't last long.  Especially little Sitka (Roxy) who may find a forever home here at the ranch.  Of course, summer goes along and things change and puppies come and then go to great homes so make sure if you want one of these  fabulous babes you get an application in.  See mikeyschance.com for application procedures.

Here they are.  No trouble at all.  Last year there were 8, so two seems totally manageable.  Right now anyway:)

Sitka - her tail curves over, so I am thinking maybe some husky?

Kenai is quite a bit bigger than his sister with HUGE feet and a BIG HEAD.  You can really see the curl in Sitka's tail in this picture.
Hard to get pictures of them when they are running all over the place, so here they are after play.

 Kenai...
...and yes, I climbed over dining room chairs to get these pictures!

Stay tuned.
